The Beggining of Alec Dunham

The incessant buzzing of the alarm awoke him with a jolt. "Today's the day!" he thought. He opened his eyes and said "Computer, lights on," and as the room brightened "Oh and turn that damned alarm off!" He stretched and looked around his quarters, they were neat and tidy, just as he'd found them when he moved in. All his worldly belongings were in the two suitcases that were packed at the foot of his bed.

Alec got up and walked over to the lavatory. He shed his clothing and stepped into the sonic. After five minutes he felt refreshed and ready to take on the challenges he was bound to come up against this day. He stepped out of the sonic and grabbed a towel that he wrapped around himself. He gathered his pajamas and put them in the recyler, then he stepped to his closet and selected the last uniform that still hung in his closet. He put it on and placed the towel in the recyler.

As he gathered his two suitcases and his tool kit, a wave of nostalgia washed over him. Even though he had only been there a year, he had come to consider these quarters home. However being offered a position in the engineering department of the new Legacy  was the opportunity of a lifetime.

He left his quarters for the last time and made his way to the main transporter hub in Starfleet headquarters on Earth. As he entered the room the sounds transporter traffic filled his ears.

"Sam!" He waved his hand as he walked over to his friend who was on duty.

"Alec! Sad to see you go, and good luck with your new assignment!"

"Thanks Sam! I'm reporting there now, Can you beam me over?"

"Sure thing! Enjoy your new assignment, and keep in touch."

With that Alec stepped onto the transporter padd and seconds later was standing in the Legacy's transporter room. The first thing that struck him was that the transporter room still looked like new.

"Permission to come aboard?" He asked the transporter chief.

"Permission granted. Report to your quarters and then then report to engineering.."

Alec left the transporter room and walked to the turbo lift and said "Deck 9, crew quarters." As he stepped out of the turbo lift, he passed several crewmen whom he nodded to as he passed. He came to his quarters several minute later. He stepped in and was surprised to see that they were bigger that the quarters that he had back at Starfleet Headquarters. He set his bags down and then left to report to main engineering.
